Production This department manages multiple projects simultaneously in a desktop publishing environment. Our production staff is responsible for designing covers, text, and layout. We contract with printers to produce our finished books at a competitive price. We work closely with freelance artists, focus groups, and our publisher. Editorial Our editorial staff develops and writes books as well as acquires and edits titles written by outside authors. We ensure the marketability of new titles by testing concepts and content with schools, reader panels, and our sales department. Backlist titles are updated regularly to keep successful titles current and marketable. Sales and Marketing Our sales department is active in specialty markets where we sell book programs and displays to large discount stores, warehouse clubs, display marketers, infant and maternity stores, toy and gift retailers, mail-order catalog companies, and schools and libraries. We also sell our product through a small network of independent marketing representatives. Customer Service Our customer service department receives and processes all orders quickly and accurately so each day’s orders are ready for the shipping department. We answer phone calls from new and existing customers, and we work closely with the sales department to ensure customer satisfaction. Accounting The accounting department manages all aspects of our company’s business records and is responsible for receivables, payables, sales data, author royalties, and other financial data. This department maintains our business-systems software. Shipping and Warehousing We have an on-site warehouse, and the shipping department works closely with the production and sales departments to maintain inventory levels and a prompt shipping time. Publicity This department creates and organizes promotion campaigns for each new title. Authors are scheduled for bookstore signings and speaking engagements, as well as TV, radio, and print interviews.
